Upcoming HMHB Coffee & Chai Chat on New Resources for MMS Introduction
Join a Coffee and Chai Chat with Rebecca Heidkamp from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and Julia Rotich from the Ministry of Health, Kenya on 3 October 2024 at 9 a.m. EST. The discussion will focus on two new resources released by the Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies Consortium (HMHB). Participants will be able to ask questions in real-time.
Multiple Micronutrient Supplementation (MMS), specifically the United Nations International Multiple Micronutrient Antenatal Preparation (UNIMMAP) formulation of MMS, is a widely used, well-researched, and established nutrition intervention that can improve maternal health and reduce adverse pregnancy outcomes.
Many national governments are already aware of the positive benefits of MMS. As a result, momentum for MMS introduction and scale-up is growing rapidly. To date, more than 23 countries are currently introducing (or exploring introduction of) MMS, with more countries expected to join.To support the growing momentum for MMS, the Global MMS in Pregnancy Technical Advisory Group (MMS TAG), hosted by HMHB, commissioned two new resources:
- Resource paper for practitioners: Using Implementation Science to Support the Introduction and Scale-up of Multiple Micronutrient Supplementation
- FAQ for national decision-makers: Introducing and Scaling Multiple Micronutrient Supplementation Programming: Frequently Asked Questions for Decision-makers
This comprehensive set of resources are intended for practitioners, advocates, policymakers, and decision-makers as they consider taking steps forward to introduce and scale MMS programming. Both documents provide practical guidance and valuable recommendations, with timely country examples to inform and inspire action. Currently, the documents are available in English and will be translated into French, Spanish, Arabic, and Portuguese over the coming weeks.
We encourage use of this dissemination toolkit and invite you to amplify news about these resources by adding to your newsletter or blog, and creating your own posts or liking, commenting, and reposting content from HMHB, Micronutrient Forum, and others.
