On 1 December, 2021, the Mighty Nutrient Coalition hosted Mighty Nutrients: The Power of Vitamins and Minerals to Unlock Human Potential. This powerful side event at the Tokyo Nutrition for Growth Summit brought together leaders within the micronutrient field to lift up the importance of micronutrients.
The event was moderated by Rajul Pandya-Lorch, Board Member of the Micronutrient Forum. Speakers included Juliana Auma, Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Association, Maureen Muketha, a youth advocate from Kenya, Victor Aguayo, UNICEF Director for Nutrition and Child Development, Saskia Osendarp, Executive Director of the Micronutrient Forum, N. Arlappa, Deputy Director of the National Institute of Nutrition in India, Werner Schultink, Executive Director of Iodine Global Network, and Lynnette Neufeld, Director of Knowledge Leadership at GAIN.
Speakers discussed the power vitamins and minerals have to unlock human potential. These mighty nutrients are critical for the physical and mental growth and development of children, as well as good health, strong immunity, and well-being. The Mighty Nutrient Coalition, through events, publications, and collaboration, seeks to end micronutrient deficiencies. This event highlighted that together, we can transform food and health systems, save and improve lives, and achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
