The Micronutrient Forum is pleased to invite its partners, stakeholders and those interested in women’s nutrition to the launch of the Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies Consortium (HMHB). The 90-minute launch webinar event will feature moderated dialogues on the science behind maternal nutrition and MMS, and country implementation experiences. It will start at 8 ET/14 CET/18:30 IST. Register now. HMHB will harness global momentum to improve access to good maternal nutrition services and accelerate the availability and effective use of affordable multiple micronutrient supplements (MMS). Through collective effort, HMHB will work on ensuring that pregnant women everywhere have access to critical nutrition through MMS to safeguard their health and increase the chances that babies are born ready to thrive. The well-being of women and children is essential to the strength of families, communities, and countries; healthy pregnancies are essential for infant health, development, and future success. Around the world, many pregnant women lack access to quality antenatal care and nutrition services and do not have access to the nutritious diets they need for a healthy pregnancy. While iron and folic acid (IFA) supplementation has long been part of antenatal care services provided to pregnant women in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), they are not the only micronutrients that pregnant women need. During pregnancy, women require a range of vitamins and minerals to support their own health and the development of their children before birth. To address these needs, multiple micronutrient supplements (MMS) were developed. MMS, which contain 15 essential micronutrients for pregnant women and babies, is a proven, cost-effective, and safe intervention leading to better birth outcomes than iron-folic acid supplementation alone. The Micronutrient Forum has been a key part of efforts to improve pregnant women’s health with its leadership of the 2019 Goalkeepers Accelerator, a coordinated initiative launched to advance the introduction and implementation of MMS. The Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies Consortium is an evolution of the Accelerator. Join us for a special webinar event to learn about: • The importance of maternal nutrition and multiple micronutrient supplementation (MMS) • The new HMHB Consortium aiming to accelerate the MMS agenda • How the Consortium will support your work in advancing MMS Register now.
